Upper Newport Bay is a place where fresh and salt water meet and mix. It is one of only a few remaining estuaries in Southern California and is the home of nearly 200 species of birds. Hiking and biking are both popular activities. A paved road runs along the West side of the bay and has several parking areas for cars. If your a runner this place is heaven. Fantastic views and a cool ocean breeze. The trail is 3.2 miles one way and hugs the back bay.

This was the first day of operation for the big orange balloon in Irvine California. They had quite a few events going on including a jazz band and fly-overs by vintage world war 2 planes. The balloon looks like quite a success and will become an orange county landmark.
