No where else in Southern California are you able to drive and camp right on the beach. South of the pier are 8 miles of towering sand dunes used for four wheel ATV riding. Two wheel drive vehicles are not recommended on the beach but it is possible to drive the beach in the family car if you make a fast run over the soft sand to the hard beach sand by the water.
