Point Mugu State Park

Cloudy day at Point Mugu, California Point Mugu State Park is north of Malibu and is the largest preserved area in the Santa Monica Mountains. Along the beach are rocky outcrops and tide pools inland there are miles of trails to explore. The Mugu Rock (picture above) is not a natural feature but was formed when Pacific Coast Highway was cut through the mountain. The park is a popular place for viewing birds, marine mammals, and wildflowers and provides about 15,000 acres of preserved coastal land. Camping is permitted in two campgrounds Thornhill Broome Campground, on the beach and Sycamore Canyon Campground inland. Point Mugu State Park is 15 miles south of Oxnard on Highway One 9000 W.
