William R. Hearst Memorial State Beach

 San Simeon  State BeachMost visitors turn inland and take the bus up to Hearst Castle but just across coast is highway William R. Hearst Memorial State Beach. If you bring along a lunch there are plenty of picnic tables to sit at and enjoy the view. With a little more time you can try your luck fishing from San Simeon Pier. The beach is located along some of California's pristine coastline, unspoiled by high-rise hotels and golf course's. The park includes the Santa Rosa Creek Natural Preserve, the San Simeon Natural Preserve and the Pa-nu Cultural Preserve were established in 1990.
William R. Hearst Memorial State Beach is about 35 miles north of San Luis Obispo on Highway 1, across from the entrance to Hearst Castle.
