Silver Strand Beach San Diego

Silver Strand Beach San Diego
Silver Strand State Beach is only minutes away from downtown San Diego. The beach is on a strip of sand that separates the Pacific Ocean from San Diego Bay. At one time a train ran along the sand spit bringing tourist to the Hotel Del Coronado. Today highway 75 splits the park into two sections ocean and bay. Beach camping is permitted on the Pacific Ocean side with some sites backing right onto the beach. With only 136 spaces for camping these campsites are much sought after. Unless you happen to get lucky and find a cancellation you will need to book months in advance. On the bay side of the park is the Crown Cove Aquatic Center is a effort between California State Parks, Southwestern Community College and the California Department of Boating and Waterways. The aquatic center offers classes in boating safety, leadership training, CPR, first aid, swift water rescue and lifeguard training. For Day use there are plenty of places to have a picnic and the calmer and slightly warmer water in the bay is ideal for swimming and boating. Crown Cove Trail is an accessible .8-mile loop and take you through some of the natural habitat of the strand. Silver Strand State Beach Strand State Beach 5000 Hwy. 75 Coronado, CA 92118
