Where to find Christmas Boat Parades

Christmas in California would not be complete without viewing at least one Christmas Boat Parade of Lights. These festive events are a tradition that started over 100 years ago with the Newport Beach Christmas Parade. Today harbors up and down the coast celebrate Christmas with these aquatic light shows.

Newport Beach Christmas Parade
The grand daddy of Christmas boat parades. Decorated boats of all sizes cruise around the harbor for five nights. This year's boat parade theme is, "Lights, Camera - Christmas," celebrates Newport as a playground of Hollywood stars. Parade hours: 6:30 to 9 p.m. Dec. 15 to 19. Fireworks at 9 p.m. Dec. 19. Santa Barbara Parade of Lights
The 25th Annual Parade of Lights takes place on Sunday, December 12th. Festivities begin with a Santa’s Village event at 3:00 p.m. on the City Pier featuring a visit from Santa, ten tons of snow, and holiday music. Distinguished judges, along with thousand of spectators will cheer on 30 to 50 boats decorated to the theme of “Silver Bells and Winter Swells.”

Ventura Holiday Parade of Lights
Friday, Dec. 17-Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010 at Ventura Harbor Village. Ventura Harbor, 1583 Spinnaker Drive, Ventura. 7 to 8.30 p.m. Parking is free on the streets and in the beach lots.

Marina Del Rey Holiday Boat Parade
Saturday, December 11th. Rock 'n' roll theme, Elvis impersonators and other legends of rock as boat owners. Fireworks go off at 5:55 p.m. with boats circling from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Free. Best viewing locations, Burton Chace Park and Fisherman's Village,

Huntington Harbour Boat Parade
Saturday and Sunday Dec. 11th and 12th. The two-day boat parade is a prelude to the annual Cruise of Lights, December 17 through December 23. Parade: 16400 Pacific Coast Highway, Huntington Harbour. 5:15 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Huntington Harbour Boat Parade
Cruise of Lights: Dec 17 to 23. Narrated boat tours leave daily at 5:30, 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. Adults $15, Children $9. Free public parking at Huntington Harbor Mall with busses to the cruise boats. (714) 840-7542 (for both events);

King Harbor Boat Parade in Redondo Beach
Saturday, December 11, 2010, 5:30 - 7 pm. From King Harbor Marina to the Redondo Beach Viewing locations from the King Harbor Marina to the Redondo Beach Pier, break walls and restaurants. 5:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Dana Point Boat Parade of Lights
Dec. 10, 11, & 17, 18 at 7:30pm. Parade starts off Bay Island at 6:30 pm and finishes at the same site at around 9:00 pm.
