Mothers Day is May 13 this year and there are plenty of things to do other than waiting in a long line for brunch. This year do something really special for mom and take her for a day trip. 1. Keys Creek Lavender Farm in north San Diego County is a wonderful place to visit with mom. Fields of lavender greet visitors to this wonderful place. Take a self guided tour, browse hundreds of lavender related products at the lavender store and on your return trip stop by Pala Casino for lunch.

2. Balboa Park San Diego is perfect for a Mothers Day outing. There is a near endless collection of interesting attractions, 15 museums and the world famous San Diego Zoo. 3. Carlsbad Flower Fields are another place mom is sure to enjoy. 4. Temecula Wine Country has over 30 wineries and many of them are hosting Mothers Day events. With so many wineries concentrated in the valley there is no way to visit them all in one day. 5. Mission San Juan Capistrano has beautiful gardens, historic treasures and is surrounded by downtown San Juan Capistrano. 8. Griffith Observatory is a wonderful place anytime of the year. With free parking and free admission the Griffith Observatory is perfect for families on a tight budget.
