South of Mammoth Lake lies Convict Lake a crystal clear California High Sierra Lake. The lake get its name from  a gang of  escaped Carson City convicts had a shootout with a sheriff's posse in the nineteenth century.

Today visitors to Convict lake usually have fishing on their minds. The 170 acre lack is stocked with rainbow and brown trout and is an angler's paradise.

Camping is another popular activity with over 100 camp sites at the lake campground. During the summer the campsites are often, so make sure you reserve in advance.

If you can't find an available campsite, or you are looking for a few of those creature comforts of home, just across the road is Convict Lake Resort;The Convict Lake General Store located near the mouth of the lake, is the hub for the entire resort, including cabin and activity reservations.

Convict Lake activities include horseback riding, fishing, camping, sightseeing and back packing. Next time you are traveling Highway 395 take time and visit this beautiful lake, you will not be disappointed.
