Los Angeles Chinatown Day Trip

Los Angeles Chinatown Golden Dragon GatewayOld China Town Plaza Los Angeles Chinatown Los Angeles is a fascinating place to visit.

Located along Broadway street in downtown the 16 block area is full of small shops and restaurants selling anything from incense to giant bags of mushrooms.

There are several small shopping malls with the oldest being Old China Town Plaza with it's distinctive old style Chinese architecture.

There are plenty of places to park so get out of the car and take a walk along Broadway street and enjoy the sights and sounds of Chinatown.

The people are friendly and more than happy to suggest their favorite shop or place to eat.

A short walk will take you to Olvera Street historic district however I would only venture there if you have some extra time.

Chinatown is much more interesting and does not have tourist buses unloading hundreds of people into a small shopping district.

Chinatown LA shoppingBroadway Street Chinatown Los Angeles Be sure to go into some of the shops in Chinatown especially the food stores. Most items are very reasonably priced and if your up to it you might be able to haggle a lower price.

Your trip to Chinatown would not be complete without some good Chinese food and there are plenty of places to choose from.

Pick from sidewalk vendors to sit down restaurants all offering authentic Chinese dining.

A day trip to Chinatown LA is a very inexpensive outing. Parking will cost about five dollars for the day. (do not park at the Olvera Street lots they charge ten bucks).

Walking around is free and if you decide to eat the restaurants are not over priced. More pictures and directions to Chinatown Los Angeles on our main web site.

The one thing that has come down is the price of gas which makes taking a local day trip the most cost effective family entertainment these days. has a growing list of free things to do in Southern California. Don't sit at home with bored kids head out for a day trip and explore So Cal. Tip: pack a lunch and drinks and your days entertainment will only cost you a half a tank of gas.

After a number of shakeout flights, the WhiteKnightTwo is to be outfitted with the now-under-construction SpaceShipTwo. Ultimately WhiteKnightTwo is to carry the space plane to altitude, where it will then detach and head for suborbital space flights. Virgin Galactic has on order five SpaceShipTwo rocket planes and two of the carrier craft, with options on more.
Virgin Galactic has received deposits from 200 astronauts totaling over $30 million. Ticket price is currently $200,000, although as passenger volumes increase, the goal is to dramatically reduce this price to make spaceflight affordable to the maximum number of people.

Winter Means Whale Watching in Southern California

Southern California has year round whale watching but things really kick into high gear with the gray whale migration down the pacific coast. Gray Whales can been seen mid-December through March with January being the peak month. Most of Southern California's harbors offer whale watching boats. Pricing can vary but expect to pay about 25 to 30 dollars for a two hour whale watching trip. During peak season it's possible to view whales from land using binoculars. Point Loma in San Diego and Point Dume north of Los Angeles are both excellent places for land viewing of whales. Still your best chance to see whales is with of one of the Southern California whale watching boats. A few of the tours offer guaranteed sightings but if you look at fine print it includes whale or dolphin sightings. Even if you don't see a whale it's fun to get out on the boat and check out the coastline from off shore. Listing of So Cal whale watching boats.
