SPRINTER Oceanside to Escondido
Sprinter Train passenger service began on March 9, 2008 from Oceanside to Escondido. The 22 mile trip will costs riders two dollars for each direction. A monthly pass is $54.00 dollars for unlimited trips. Passenger zip along at speeds up to 55 miles an hour along the Highway 78 corridor. The European-style light rail vehicles stops at15 stations along the route. The $477 million transit system connects with the Coaster, Metro link and Amtrak at the Oceanside transportation center. The train runs seven days a week, 4 a.m. to 8 p.m., with 64 trips daily. The Sprinter is the first passenger train service of any kind along the Escondido Branch since the Santa Fe Railroad discontinued passenger service in 1946. The 22-mile trip will take 53 minutes to complete.
