At one time the Harvey House was a stooping off point for passengers on the Santa Fe Railroad. Full service dining and overnight lodging were provided to hungry and tired travelers on their trip across the desert. After trains started providing on board meals Casa Del Desierto went into decline and was abandoned. Today the restored building houses a train museum and a route 66 museum.
